Valerie Nunes-Atkinson
- VJK, which stands for Von Jango Kennels was established in 1971 by
my father Chuck Nunes. An avid hunter my father set out to find a nice
personal gun dog for himself. Through chance he met and began training
with people that introduced him to competition hunting. That, shall we
say was the beginning of the end. That first GSP, although purchased
from a backyard breeder turned out to be an incredible hunter. Our first
3 litters from her produced National Field Champions, Dual Champions and
even Show Champions. She won the GSPCA National Top Dual Producing Dam
in 1977. With her first litter to a Top National Field dog she produced
ours and his, first Show Champions. It was with these pups that I was
introduced to Confirmation at the age of 7. My with introduction my
interest grew rapidly and I met Marilyn Stockland, of Marilee GSP's.
Marilyn, my original mentor and also my second Mother took me under her
wing and we bred dogs together under both our prefixes. |

Yvonne
Hassler-Deterding – In 1975 I acquired my first GSP as a companion
and hunting dog. Thus began my love of this breed and they have been my
constant companions ever since. In 1995, I met Marilyn Stockland and
with her guidance was introduced to the Wonderful World of Dog Shows.
Together Marilyn and I travelled to many shows in which she mentored me
in the art of showing and breeding dogs. When I chose my kennel name,
The “M” in MYST, was in honor of her. |

Upon Marilyns
passing a new partnership began, we combined our kennel names and became
VJK-MYST. Yvonne and I, have had incredible success together. As with my
Father, Marilyn and now Yvonne, we have always prided ourselves on
purely quality, never quantity in breeding. We strive to make each
generation count in our long term goals and plans. Typically, through
the years we have bred just a litter a year. Our first goal in our
endeavors is always to breed a happy, healthy GSP pup that will bring
years of enjoyment to its owners. Maintaining true GSP type,
conformation, movement and Health is our priority with every litter. We
have been honored to produce dogs that have titled in almost every
discipline you can imagine from; Conformation, Field (both in Field
Trials, Hunt Test and Natural Ability), Obedience and Agility, to name
just a few. We have produced dogs that have been won everything from #1
Status, Best In Shows, National Specialties, Specialties, Group Wins,
National Sweepstakes and National Futurity wins. We have exported a
select few of our best that went to other Country's with the same
results. Most recently a young male by the name of Sterling to the UK
that was only the 2nd GSP ever to go from USA to England and complete a
show title. He did so in grand style winning 22 CC's, being the #1 GSP
but most importantly did what his longtime breeder had hoped, brought in
new blood to the UK and making him the #1 GSP sire for numerous years.
It is this type of situation we are most proud of in our breeding
program. Producing beautiful dogs not only in the flesh but dogs that go
on to make an impact in the breed both in the US and Worldwide. We
cannot forget to mention Toby, Ch, Minado's Parade Drum Major....sire to
my girl Carlee, 2005 Westminster KC Best In Show Winner, Megan A Point
2001 #1 Sporting Dog and #7 All Breeds, in addition to many other #1
GSP's through the years. This dog not only the breeds Top Producer but
huge influence on our program and worldwide has made a mark in the breed
that is still being felt through Grand and Great Grand kids. We have
some exciting new Toby kids set to enter the ring soon, the first Toby
babies in 12 years and through frozen semen. We have some wonderful
Great Grand babies that most recently won everything at this years
Nationals. Baby Rhett won Winner Dog and Best of Winners from the BBE
Class, Epic was Winners Bitch and her littermate CJ was Best in
Sweepstakes and Best In Futurity after having finished himself in a
spectacular way winning 3 BOB's from the BBE class at 3 of the largest
shows. Those included Del Valle when he was 7 months, GSPCA Regional day
before Eukanuba at 9 months and Westminster KC at 12 months. To say we
were proud breeders was an understatement. So as small time breeders we
are proud of our accomplishments not only in their results but even more
importantly proud that each generation we produce seems to carry on with
improving our breed and bringing us to new heights in producing happy,
healthy, well adjusted, family companions that happen to be gorgeous and
can still go out and do what they were originally intended to do if
their owners so choose. We thank SBKC for this incredible honor of being
recognized for our years of dedication to the German Shorthaired Pointer
and the Fancy. |
